Friday and Friends

6 Apr

How do people become friends? Is it serendipity, predestination, or in the stars? I’m not sure what the answer is, but I’ll tell you How I make friends. It’s very complicated and difficult to remember, so take notes now. I’ll wait while you get a pen and paper… Ready? Here ya go! Just say, “Hello.” Or, maybe say, “Hey. How’s it going?” Simple as that! Have a kind word for a stranger.

Will Rogers said it best- “A stranger is just a friend I haven’t met yet.”

This morning, I met my friend Gary Piña for breakfast at Snug on the Square, then walked over to Goodies Texas candy store before he had to leave. I don’t even remember how or when we met. I guess we corresponded via email at first. He works for the Dallas Morning News, and I was submitting stories here and there, always asking dumb questions and making weird comments. I invited him to different events in McKinney. Anyway, somewhere along the line we became friends. Here is Gary, just a kid in a “candy store.”

Snug is also a fun place to bump into friends. I ran into Michele and Kay there. Later, my friend Sherry M. stopped by. I met these gals a while ago. We just started talking, yada, yada. Next thing we knew…friends. Here’s Sherry!

On way way home, I stopped at the Collin County Art Show at the Heard-Craig Auditorium. I saw a lot of artist friends there. My friend Sherry J. was volunteering. I met Sherry about 5 or 6 years ago when I wrote a story for McKinney Magazine about her fabulous Santa Claus’ she paints. Instant friends! Then, in walks another friend, Lynne H. She was elated to find that her piece, “Quiet Vision” won the prestigious Mary Berry Award. Here’s Lynne!

I stopped at Papa Murphy’s before heading home to pick up a bake-yourself pizza for dinner. Kerri and Justin who work there have become friends. How? Just chatting and laughing. Then home to pack up, have a quick lunch, then off to Towne Creek to volunteer with my senior art friends. MAN!!! I have a lot of friends! And this is just one day, and a typical Friday. Life is good!

There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship.- Thomas Aquinas

I treasure my friends . It’s nice to be reminded in this post how important friends are . I think that you are one who makes friends constantly and easily . That’s a nice way to go through life .

Thanks Dan. I’m not sure if I find new friends easily, or they find me. Today I met another handful of new people. I guess I like to talk.
