Sunday Morning: Johnny Cash

21 Jul

Do not let Sunday be taken from you. If your soul has no Sunday, it becomes an orphan.
Albert Schweitzer

Poor Johnny Cash. He must have had a few bad Sunday mornings. I’m so thankful that my Sunday’s are always wonderful. Hope yours is too!

SUNDAY MORNING COMING DOWN
Well, I woke up Sunday morning
With no way to hold my head that didn’t hurt.
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn’t bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
Then I washed my face and combed my hair
And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.

I’d smoked my mind the night before
With cigarettes and songs I’d been picking.
But I lit my first and watched a small kid
Playing with a can that he was kicking.
Then I walked across the street
And caught the Sunday smell of someone frying chicken.
And Lord, it took me back to something that I’d lost
Somewhere, somehow along the way.

On a Sunday morning sidewalk,
I’m wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
‘Cause there’s something in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone.
And there’s nothing short a’ dying
That’s half as lonesome as the sound
Of the sleeping city sidewalk
And Sunday morning coming down.

In the park I saw a daddy
With a laughing little girl that he was swinging.
And I stopped beside a Sunday school
And listened to the songs they were singing.
Then I headed down the street,
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringing,
And it echoed through the canyon
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.

On a Sunday morning sidewalk,
I’m wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
‘Cause there’s something in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone.
And there’s nothing short a’ dying
That’s half as lonesome as the sound
Of the sleeping city sidewalk
And Sunday morning coming down.

Saturday: Sittin’ Around With the Duke (John Wayne Marathon)

21 Jul

Woo-Hoo! I’ve posted 200 consecutive posts! I was excited when I made it up to 100, now 200 posts and 5,287 total views! I haven’t run out of things to say, mostly because I’m a blabber mouth, and life always has its adventures.

Today was just sittin’ around and recuperating. Thank goodness for a John Wayne marathon on TV. The Duke kept me entertained most the entire day.

Friday: Friendly Advice

19 Jul

This is a great song to make you think about your mortality and how to live your life. Tim McGraw spins it well. And don’t you just love that little country drawl? Life is short, eat dessert first, my friend!

“Live Like You Were Dyin'”- Tim McGraw

He said I was in my early 40’s,
With a lot of life before me,
And a moment came that stopped me on a dime.
I spent most of the next days, lookin’ at the x-rays,
Talkin’ ’bout the options and talkin’ ’bout sweet time.
Asked him when it sank in, that this might really be the real end.
How’s it hit ya, when you get that kind of news.
Man what ya do.
And he says,

[Chorus]

I went sky divin’,
I went rocky mountain climbin’,
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull name Fumanchu.
And I loved deeper,
And I spoke sweeter,
And I gave forgiveness I’ve been denying,
And he said someday I hope you get the chance,
To live like you were dyin’.

He said I was finally the husband,
That most the time I wasn’t.
And I became a friend a friend would like to have.
And all the sudden goin’ fishing,
Wasn’t such an imposition.
And I went three times that year I lost my dad.
Well I finally read the good book,
And I took a good long hard look at what I’d do
If I could do it all again.
And then.

[Chorus]

Like tomorrow was a gift and you’ve got eternity
To think about what you do with it,
What could you do with it, what can
I do with with it, what would I do with it.

[Chorus]
Sky divin’,
I went rocky mountain climbin’,
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull name Fumanchu.
And I loved deeper,
And I spoke sweeter,
And I watched an eagle as it was flyin’.
And he said someday I hope you get the chance,
To live like you were dyin’.

To live like you were dyin’.
To live like you were dyin’.
To live like you were dyin’.
To live like you were dyin’.

Theme Song Thursday:Home

Home is where you feel at home and are treated well.
Dalai Lama

Home from the hospital today. Not much more to say. Gotta rest. Take care my friends!

At least the hospital food was good.

Wednesday Words of Wisdom: My Heart Will Go On

17 Jul

Treasure the love you receive above all. It will survive long after your good health has vanished.
Og Mandino
brainyquote.com

Sitting in a hospital bed, staring at a sterile white ceiling, looking down at tubes and wires, you have plenty of time to think. Those not so quiet hours in the dark seem like centuries. Only a glimpse of the morning sun can provide a glimmer of distraction.

Sound dismal? Not really. Sometimes it affords you a few hours to take a long retrospective look at your life. My life has been amazing. I have been very blessed. You probably think I’m on my deathbed. No, but thanks for asking. Just one of those little speed bumps in the road of life.

The moral of the story… Good health may come and go, but love is what matters most. Always cherish your family and friends. Life is too dang short.

MY HEART WILL GO ON

Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you,
That is how I know you go on

Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never let go till we’re gone

Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we’ll always go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

You’re here, there’s nothing i fear,
And i know that my heart will go on
We’ll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Tuesday: Trials, Tribulations, and Two Little Letters

17 Jul

A hospital bed is a parked car with the meter running.
Groucho Marx

Short and sweet today. Two little letters…ER. Not really a cheery fun day. I’m in the hospital, but the good news is… I’m still here. I told you every day is an adventure!

Great view. Baylor McKinney- nice place to visit, not so fun otherwise.

Monday Montage with a Touch of Rain

15 Jul

Most people are disappointed when they look outside and see the rain. Not here in North Texas. The lawns, flowers and fields are pretty darn dry. We are also in water restrictions here in McKinney, limited to once a week. That doesn’t really help much. So, today, I’m very grateful for the gentle and-and-off showers, but I’d be much happier with a good old fashioned downpour.

A picture says a thousand words, so here’s a few thousand words in today’s montage.

Sentimental Sunday

14 Jul

Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid, one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.
Douglas MacArthur

I was looking for something in one of my dresser drawers this morning, sifting through old playbills and letters from Mom, when I stumbled upon an old stained box. You know, one of those white cardboard gift boxes with the cotton on the bottom. When I opened it up, a delightful flood of butterflies and sentimentality danced in my heart. Inside we’re several handmade necklaces and trinkets from my boys when they were little. (Now in their thirties.)

Having been an art teacher in my B.C. days, (Before Children) I always volunteered at the boys’ school. One year, maybe around when Matt was in third grade, I volunteered to teach his class how to make a Mother’s Day necklace to surprise their moms. I brought all the beads, little wooden mom cut-outs, and fishing line. The kids had fun decorating the mom made of wood with markers and stringing the colorful beads. Matt always loved when I volunteered to read or do a craft in his class, and his friends loved it too. I think it was because I always brought a snack or candy.

The front of my necklace reads, “Back off Dude, I’m a Mom!” But the part that made me giggle out loud was the message on the back. It said, “No fair, you’re not surprised!”

PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!

Saturday at the Movies: The Lone Ranger

13 Jul

Call me old fashioned. Many people have. I saw the new “The Lone Ranger” movie today, and was somewhat entertained. Just somewhat. There was some pretty good camera work and special effects, a few corny lines, but I don’t think anything can compare to the old original black-and-white version. They were simple honest episodes with a moral message. This latest remake consists of a lot of flash and action. I’m still trying to retrieve the moral. But, I’m glad I went to see it. There isn’t much worth seeing at the movies lately.

Spoiler alert! If you haven’t seen the movie yet, or even if you have, something to arm yourself for the very end. The Lone Ranger asks his Indian companion, “Do you know what Tonto means in Spanish?” My husband didn’t get it, and I think I was only one of a handful in the audience that did. Look it up.

It would be great to have some of these old classics back on television for the younger generation. Our kids are watching some weird and whacky programs nowadays. I vote we bring back “The Lone Ranger”, “Zorro”, “The Andy Griffith Show”, and all those fun episodes on the regular stations. Yeah, right. That’s not happening. This old fashioned gal can only dream.
