If Prometheus was worthy of the wrath of heaven for kindling the first fire upon earth, how ought all the gods honor the men who make it their professional business to put it out? ~John Godfrey Saxe

But sound aloud the praises, and give the victor-crown
To our noble-hearted Firemen, who fear not danger’s frown.
~Frederic G.W. Fenn, “Ode to our Firemen,” 1878

My brownie baking reputation is well known throughout the land, as are the weird and amusing faces that I make and photograph with the mix and eggs. Yes, I dress up my brownies before baking! Who doesn’t? I have many traditions, but one of the most important is baking for my local fire station on holidays, 9/11, or just because I’m in a baking mood. They genuinely appreciate the thoughtfulness. Today is a special day. A day to say thank you to those who serve and protect.

Fire Station #5 is our local station just down the road. Here is Braxton Hines, who has been at the 5 for about a year.

Quite a few of the former firemen and EMTs from the 5 were transferred over to Station 2 last year, so of course, I had to take some brownies over there too. It’s just as easy to bake for 2 as for 5, Stations that is. THANK YOU GUYS!!!!

Firefighter Rodney Smith said that a lot of people stopped by to say thank you and show their appreciation today. Never forget!
