Friday: Holiday Fun and Friends

21 Dec

The pursuit of beauty and truth is a sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives.
Albert Einstein
Another fun video from my Zumba class yesterday at the McKinney YMCA, getting into the holiday spirit. Such fun!

We celebrated Della’s birthday at Towne Creek today. Her birthday is Christmas Eve, and that’s a heck of a time to have a birthday. But, hopefully we made it a special day for her. We worked on making some crafts, had a little feast, and sang happy birthday before digging into red velvet cake. My favorite part was when we held hands before our celebration and said what we were thankful for. Funny, everyone mentioned the wonderful friends we had made and shared our days with. That’s what it’s all about, my friends!

Our little feast.

Della loved her special birthday celebration with friends and red velvet cake.

Krys Watson brought fabulous appetizers. Look how cute!

We made a bunch of these crafts to share with friends and family.

Theme Song Thursday: Thank You for Being a Friend

20 Dec

We are each gifted in a unique and important way. It is our privilege and our adventure to discover our own special light.
Mary Dunbar
Today was our annual “TOTS” Christmas party at Snug on the Square. Our little band of “Table Of Talent Sisters” started meeting in 2008. We began as three new friends, Lynne, Sherry and me. As the years went by, other friends joined us. Now, we are over a dozen VERY AWESOME and TALENTED women. We rarely get the entire group together, but Christmas time is an occasion we hate to miss. The gift exchanges are amazing. This year especially, my gracious and loving friends have helped me get through some very tough times, and have made me smile after we shared a good cry together. This is what true friendship is all about.

Songwriters: ANDREW GOLD
Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down the road and back again
your heart is true you’re a pal and a confidant

I’m not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won’t you stand up and take a bow

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see, the biggest gift would be from me
and the card attached would say,
Thank you for being a friend

Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend

If it’s a car you lack
I’d surely buy you a cadillac
Whatever you need, anytime of the day or night

I’m not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won’t you stand up and take a bow

And when we both get older
With walking canes and hair of gray
Have no fear, even though it’s hard to hear
I will stand real close and say,
Thank you for being a friend…

Wednesday Words of Wisdom

19 Dec

All change is not growth, as all movement is not forward.
Ellen Glasgow

I deplore change! I love writing my blog and I am comfortable with the format, but while attempting to start a new blog for a friend, somehow the format was all different on the new site. What’s that all about. I spent endless hours trying to figure out how to get the photos posted and how to add the text. I must have added and deleted a dozen things. It finally got posted, but not the way I wanted.

My friend, Linda Grossman, is a local realtor and over-the-top busy lady. She has complimented me many times my writing skills and style, and asked if I’d help her set up a blog about local activities and great places to visit in McKinney. Right up my alley, piece of cake, no problemo, right? Wrong!
Although I deplore change, I thrive on challenge. I’ll figure it out. Here is the link. What do you think?

Tuesday: Tips for Toning…or Toni…ing.

18 Dec

There’s a lot of people in this world who spend so much time watching their health that they haven’t the time to enjoy it.
Josh Billings
If you’re gonna exercise, make sure it’s a lot of fun, you make friends doing it, and you go out to lunch afterwards.
I love Zumba! Not only is it a good workout, but it’s so much fun. I’ve lost some weight and all that wiggling and jiggling has significantly toned up those “jello” parts. Thus, the toning tip. Since my name is Toni, I’m going to coin the phrase “Toni…ing.” I’ve always wanted to dance and never had the opportunity. Now, I can dance, sing, and jiggle to my hearts content. I’ve also made some great friends in the process. Especially, my friend Karen who offered to call 911 for me on a couple occasions. Today was a fun day!

Montage Monday: A Week in a Peek, a Festive Peek

16 Dec

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.
Harriet Tubman
It took a few days to defrost from the frigid winter storm that zapped north Texas. It’s 61degrees right now. Yippee! But, that too may change at the drop of a hat…so don’t drop your hat. There were a lot of fun activities happening in McKinney. I didn’t get to all of them, but, sure got to a lot.

Sunday Service, Snug on the Square, Santa and Scrumptious Cookies

16 Dec

When I admire the wonders of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in the worship of the creator.
Mahatma Gandhi
Starting out with an inspirational Sunday service was a great way to begin my day. Then, I scooted off to the Square to meet some friends for breakfast at Snug. Well, I didn’t eat, but had some iced tea. Just not too hungry these days. But, being able to laugh and spend times with friends is always wonderful.

I stopped over at Sweet Spot bakery to pick up a hot chocolate before heading over to the DFW Toys for Tots Motorcycle Run at Freedom Power Sports in McKinney. Mr. And Mrs. Santa chatted with David Marks, co-founder of the annual event, before the 47 mile run. Many toys and donations were collected.

Did I mention there were handsome, charming Marines collecting toys?

Just when I thought my day couldn’t get better, my friend Blynda had invited friends to a family
cookie tasting challenge at her home. Tasting cookies…say no more! I ran into some old friends and made some new friends.
The cookies were scrumptious and endless.

Now, doesn’t that sound like a perfect Sunday?

Saturday: Special Faces, Special Places

15 Dec

Sometimes people come into your life for a moment, a day, or a lifetime. It matters not the time they spent with you but how they impacted your life in that time.
I have many people who have come into my life and blessed my soul. Here are just a few special faces and special places.

Friday: Friends, Feasts and Firemen

14 Dec

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turn what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, chaos into clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.
Melody Beattie
Let’s start with the firemen. Yesterday, I stopped at Station #5 to drop off my annual hand-painted ornament. This should be the 9th one now. They didn’t have their tree up yet, so it didn’t get to adorn the tree. But, I’ll be back when I do my massive cookie baking next week, (I hope) and get a picture. Captain Steve answered the door when I stopped by and when I asked to take a photo for my blog! he said, “Let’s go out by the truck.” Thanks Captain Steve.

Today, we celebrated miss Eleanor’s birthday at Towne. The sweet ladies at the Art Club of McKinney let me take the left over food from our Thursday luncheon to take over to our senior art group. Thus, we had a feast on Friday, compliments of my Thursday friends. So cool to have friends everywhere. Especially friends who share.

Now, here’s a fun little photo. Miss Nelma was working on painting a candle for her Christmas cards. She was working on painting the flame and double-loading her brush. When I looked over at her palette of paint, I noticed an interesting shape that formed when the red had been dipped in the gold. I had to get a photo. It was a happy little accident.

Theme Song Thursday: It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

13 Dec

Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy is to have the real spirit of Christmas.
Calvin Coolidge
Today, the Art Club of McKinney had their annual Christmas luncheon at the heard-Craig Gallery. We were serenaded by the fabulous McKinney High School Harmony Group. They were amazing.

We were so inspired by the young voices that we had our own little sing-a-long after our ornament exchange and before our wonderful meal.

OK, we are bad singers, but we have a real good time. I was the lucky recipient of a beautiful ornament made from watercolor painted shaped flowers. Forgive me, I forgot the name of the charming and talented artist that created it, but here she is. She said it took her over ten hours to create.

Then, the “TOTS,” Table Of Talent Sisters, met at Snug on the Square to celebrate Gail’s, Lynne H.’s, and Della’s birthday. What a busy December! Isn’t it grand? Life is good!

Wednesday Words of Wisdom: When the Going Gets Tough

12 Dec

You all know that I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces – my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope. These graces have carried me through difficult times and they have brought more joy to the good times than I ever could have imagined.
Elizabeth Edwards
Sometimes you have to be reminded that you aren’t the only one in this world with problems. I certainly have been blessed with a wonderful family, fabulous friends, and a growing faith in the power of resilience and hope. Now, bring on the joy and good times.
