Sunday: Be Still and Cease Re-Pinning

25 May

Be still, sad heart! And cease repining; behind the clouds is the sun still shining; thy fate is the common fate of all, into each life some rain must fall.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Into each life some rain must fall, and fall it did. Metaphors and literal translations. We were blessed with a brief, but well needed down pour this afternoon. I remember the days when I dreaded rainy days, but with the severe drought here in Texas, each rain is a cause for celebration, I hope we get a little more.

Here’s something funny. When I read this quote to myself, my PINTEREST brain kicked in and I thought it said, Be still, sad heart! And cease repinning, you know…like when you re-pin someone’s pin. I realized that I spend too much time on social media, Facebook and Pinterest when I thought that Longfellow would cease repinning. But then, I thought, if he was around today, he’d probably be blogging and re-pinning too. So, I was half right.

I do sometimes wonder what writes like Longfellow would have done in this day and age.

I wonder too, Jessie. They would either be very prolific, writing for the masses, or maybe their deep gentle spirit would crumble and they’d run off to a log cabin in the woulda. If only time travel were possible to find out.

I absolutely love Longfellow second only to Wordsworth. Earth has not anything to show more fair: Dull would he be of soul who could
