Sunday Sermon, Short and Sweet

11 Aug

“The reason birds can fly and we can’t is simply because they have perfect faith, for to have faith is to have wings.”
― J.M. Barrie, The Little White Bird
Today’s Gospel: I like to paraphrase… It was that one where Peter sees Jesus walking on the water, thinks it’s pretty cool, so Jesus tells him to give it a try. Then, Peter starts walking on the water too, but gets nervousness when the wind kicks up. Here is part of the Gospel…

(Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.
But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened;
and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught Peter,
and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” )

I remembered that quote, “O you of little faith.” We need to be more like the birds and have perfect faith, then maybe we can fly too. I’m gonna work on that.

Short and sweet.

    Nothing worth having in this world is obtained without risk. This includes love, money, adventure, personal growth, achievement, but most of all, relationship with The Lord. Why is this a risk? In this worldly world we fight to be faithful against our own weakness, against anguish, and against those who scoff.
