Tuesday: Tribute To Our Veterans

12 Nov

How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!”
~Maya Angelou
Every day should be Veteran’s Day. Even though we take one day out of the year to honor those who have served our country and who have sacrificed so much, I think we should be thankful every day. When I see a veteran with his cap on that says what branch or war he served in, I make it a point to go up to them and shake his hand and say, “Thank you for your service.”

Sunday at church, Father asked all the veterans and current military to stand up to be recognized. There were so many men and women, young and old that stood up. We all raised our right hands in the air to join in the blessing as Father said a special prayer to watch over and bless these good people. Then there was a huge round of applause. Very nice.

We are the land of the free because of the brave.

My father, Elijah Armenta, served in World War II in the Philippines. He passed away in 1999, but was always very proud of his service to his country and close to a few of his army buddies. There was a special bond.
