Sunday Sermon and Other Stuff

14 Nov

“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”

― Confucius

Another glorious Sunday. This morning, two young girls were already greeting at the door. Instead of going to my seat, I decided to join them, saying good morning to all who entered. That’s my favorite part of Sunday. The two adorable sisters were eight and twelve years old. We chatted between greetings. The second Sunday of the month is the children’s Mass, with the children’s choir. Well, it turned out that these young ladies were also giving the first and second readings. The amazing part was that the cute little eight year old girl, Abbey, not only said her reading with precision and enthusiasm, but she said it all from memory without faltering. This was the first time I ever heard the congregation applaud anyone after a Gospel reading. Perhaps a first.

Today’s Gospel

Luke 21:5-19Jesus predicts the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem and warns his followers that persecution will come before the end, and that His followers may be tested, hated, or even put to death. “By your perserverance you will secure your lives.”

My take on it…we must be faithful, honest, loving,  and loyal, as followers and disciples of Christ. The road may be hard, we will be tested and tormented, but we can’t give up. I think that’s good advice for all people, regardless of faith, beliefs or politics. PERSERVERANCE.

The brief cool morning melted into a beautiful warm afternoon. My long afternoon walk had me in a short sleeved t-shirt. It’s mid November, for goodness sake. Mother Nature thinks it’s springtime.

Don’t forget to go outside and catch a glimpse of the super moon.
