Sunday Sermon and a Special Celebration of Life

19 Mar

You may never get back this life, so do something in this lifetime worthy of celebration.

We had a beautiful Celebration of Life Service for Mom this morning. The normally sparsely attended 10:30 service here was standing room only. There were so many people here to pray, worship, and pay tribute to their dear friend, Trini. Friends and family spoke after the Mass, telling funny stories and sharing fond memories of Mom. We shared pictures and displayed just a fraction of Mom’s paintings.

I was honored, once again, to give the Second Reading, as Mom had done for so many years.

Hebrews 5:7-9

In the days when Christ Jesus was in the flesh,

he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears

to the one who was able to save him from death,

and he was heard because of his reverence.

Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered;

and when he was made perfect,

he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.

My take on it…Jesus was an obedient and humble son, and although He prayed and pleaded as a man, He had a higher purpose, and gave His life for our salvation.

It was good to see friends and family that I hadn’t seen in decades. They always say, why do we wait to get together until there is a funeral or a wedding. I say, “What does it matter? We are together now. Let’s celebrate, hug, kiss, and love one another today.”

Family. Love you guys! Mom is smiling down us.

This is a great quote. Oh, so true.
