Sunday Sermon and Some Other Stuff

10 Aug

“Faith is about doing. You are how you act, not just how you believe.”

― Mitch Albom

It was another steamy Sunday, but I got up early to walk before it got too hot. Otherwise, walking in the heat and scorching sun, I start to smell bacon cooking, then realize it’s me. Yikes!

I watched Mass on TV this morning, but received a couple of phone calls, so I recorded Mass so I could watch it later, uninterrupted.

Today’s Gospel was the story of Jesus walking on the sea towards the disciples being tossed in their boat. Jesus called to Peter who proceeded to walk on the water, but when Peter got scared, he started to sink. That’s where the famous ” O, you of little faith” comes from.

Peter said to him in reply, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”

He said, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.

But when he saw how (strong) the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

After they got into the boat, the wind died down.

Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying, “Truly, you are the Son of God.”

My take on it… when you start doubting or denying your faith, your worth, your strengths and yourself, you start to sink. You still have a chance to focus and believe, otherwise you drown. Sink or swim, the choice is yours.

Happy Sunday, my friends.
