Sunday Sermon and Some Other Stuff

1 Aug

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.”

~Mahatma Gandhi

Still NO relief in sight for cooler temps or rain, but it was a fine sunny morning, and delightful day at church. I actually arrived early enough to greet the ladies that come on the Chateau bus. I put my money into the St.Vincent de Paul poor box and then over to put my dollar in to light a candle. There were only a few candles left, as they hadn’t been replaced. Uh oh, no little stick thing to light with. I couldn’t light my candle, but I figured God knew my intentions without the fire.

Our new priest, Father Cristian, presided today. He’s kinda funny and charming, so not too many people will fall asleep on his watch. We also had a baptism. The baby was crying like crazy before the baptism part started. Father pointed over to the baby during the disruption and said something like, “That’s OK, he’s being baptized today. We’ll get to him in a minute.”

Today’s Gospel was the parable that Jesus shared when a man asked Him to tell his brother that he needed to share his inheritance….

Lk 12:13-21Someone in the crowd said to Jesus,
“Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.”
He replied to him,
“Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?”
Then he said to the crowd,
“Take care to guard against all greed,
for though one may be rich,
one’s life does not consist of possessions.”

Then he told them a parable.
“There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest.
He asked himself, ‘What shall I do,
for I do not have space to store my harvest?’
And he said, ‘This is what I shall do:
I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones.
There I shall store all my grain and other goods
and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you,
you have so many good things stored up for many years,
rest, eat, drink, be merry!”’
But God said to him,
‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you;
and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’
Thus will it be for all who store up treasure for themselves
but are not rich in what matters to God.”

My take on it… Jesus was right, life isn’t about possessions, wealth and worldly things. You can’t take it with you, so why do so many lie, cheat, steal, and always want more? You can enjoy life, and still share your blessings with others.

After church, our usual stop at McD with Helene, Jerry and Patricia.

Helene is so cute. I make her pose for a photo op, and she always complies.

No stop at the store, as I still have so many leftovers and my freezer is exploding.

The rest of my day was lazy and inside with air conditioning. A few phone calls, and a nice FaceTime visit with the granddaughters.

They were working on some art projects. Aren’t they cute!

Happy Sunday, my friends.
