Sunday Sermon and Some Other Stuff

“Do not come into agreement with fear. Activate your faith, live in victory, speak over your life and expect great things to come your way.”- Germany Kent

An absolutely gorgeous Sunday morning here in North Texas. The temperature was still in the 60’s this morning. I was so excited to sift through my closet to look for a sweater instead of a sleeveless blouse to wear to church. Yes, a sweater! It was a tiny bit chilly, but not quite sock monkey hat weather yet. 🤦‍♀️ Not to worry, it’s 85° this afternoon.

When I pulled into the church parking lot at 8:25 am, a couple of hot air balloons were landing across the street. Cool!

Today’s Gospel is the story of the mustard seed. Even the tiniest mustard seed has great potential.

Gospel

Lk 17:5-10

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”
The Lord replied,
“If you have faith the size of a mustard seed,
you would say to this mulberry tree,
‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

“Who among you would say to your servant
who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field,
‘Come here immediately and take your place at table’?
Would he not rather say to him,
‘Prepare something for me to eat.
Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink.
You may eat and drink when I am finished’?
Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?
So should it be with you.
When you have done all you have been commanded,
say, ‘We are unprofitable servants;
we have done what we were obliged to do.'”

My take on it…. this is a tough one. It may sound like as servants, we should never feel complacent or entitled. But rather, I think it means that if we are faithful servants of God, we complete our tasks and follow His commandments without looking for praise or reward. The reward is in the doing, not in the praise or expected reward. When we have completed one task, we should look for another. There will always be more to do. “We May eat and drink” when the master is finished.

We had another baptism this morning. Mary Katherine was baptized and welcomed this morning.

Such a good baby. Not a tear or a whimper. She did pull away a little when the strange dude wearing a long green dress reached over to touch her forehead. 🤦‍♀️

After Mass, I stopped at McD. Both Helene and Jerry are out of town and Patricia was having breakfast with her son. But, I invited Danna, my CRHP sister, to stop for coffee if she had time. We hadn’t had a nice long chat since our CRHP women’s retreat in 2018. A lot of catching up to do.

Ashleigh also stopped in with her daughter for a little while, but they were having a nice mother-daughter breakfast.

Today, my little “You’re Already Amazing” daily calendar had some nice words of advice for me. I’d like to think I’m working on those things. Well, except the “race” part. No more running for me, bad knee and all that. 🤦‍♀️

Happy Sunday, my friends! ❤️
