Wednesday:) What a Wonderful Watercolor, Mom…and You’re Having WHAT For Dinner?

9 Jun

“I’ve had many amazing best friends in my lifetime, but the most amazing best friend has always been my sweet mother.”

~ Toni Armenta Andrukaitis

I always tell Mom, “The nut doesn’t fall far from the tree.” We are both a couple of nuts. We spent the entire day together, just chatting, giggling, snacking, eating, painting, more snacking, visiting friends, and checking out the entertainment downstairs.

We sat down at the table and worked on a watercolor landscape this afternoon. As always, the student surpassed the teacher. We looked at a photo from my trip to Santa Fe and I suggested how to sketch it out and what colors to use. She did a great job. I like hers better.

This is pretty good. Mine or Mom’s???

This one is pretty good. Mine or Mom’s???

Did you guess right???

Yes, the first one, the more colorful mountains and vibrant sky is Mom’s. I’ve always said,”I’m not a great artist but, man…I’m a great teacher.”

When we finished painting, it was almost time to pick up her dinner from downstairs. The hot dog just sat on the counter, didn’t look too appetizing. The dessert was a brownie with a tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream. When we came up, mom said that she always throws out the brownie and just eats the ice cream. What? Sacrilege! I told her that I’d eat the brownie. So, I added a little chocolate frozen yogurt on my brownie, and I added another scoop of ice cream from her freezer onto her dish. Guess what we had for dinner? Yep! We had ice cream for dinner.

The nut doesn’t fall far from the tree. Like mother like daughter.

Sentimental Sunday: Saying Goodbye

12 Jan

Lying, cheating, back stabbing, slut waitress banging, “HO” chasing husbands may come and go, but BEST FRIENDS ARE FOREVER.
~ Author Known
My six decades of life have been sprinkled with many friends. From childhood to our golden years, from giggly school girls to wrinkly seniors, friends pop into our lives. I have been blessed with many friends for all seasons. Some are in our lives a short time, but BEST FRIENDS ARE FOREVER.

Do you have old friends from childhood or the old days that you still keep in touch with? I have dear friends from high school, old neighbors, new neighbors, teaching buddies, car pool moms, and tennis team mates. We may not see each other very often, but they are my best friends. I can always count on them for a smile or a shoulder to lean on.

This weekend, my girlfriends Viv and Vicky flew down to celebrate my birthday with me. We laughed, lunched, giggled, and were crazy silly. Best friends do that. It was a fun-filled, jammed-packed three days. The time flew by and it was sad to see them go.

Thanks Vicky and Viv for traveling across the country to spend a cold, rainy, dreary weekend with me. It was great to have my old friends meet my new friends. It may have been dreary outside, but we were warm and fuzzy on the inside. Yep! BEST FRIENDS ARE FOREVER!

Friday Friends and Flaws

8 Mar

“Here’s all you have to know about men and women: women are crazy, men are stupid. And the main reason women are crazy is that men are stupid.”
― George Carlin
My dear friend Kay sent me the email below. It pretty much sums up how I feel about all my wonderful friends, real sisters and best friends who are like sisters. These women are amazing. Don’t forget your worth and thank you for reminding me of my own. You know who you are. “LOVE YOU!”
One Flaw In Women

Women have strengths that amaze men…

They bear hardships and they carry burdens,

But they hold happiness, love and joy.

They smile when they want to scream.

They sing when they want to cry.

They cry when they are happy

And laugh when they are nervous.

They fight for what they believe in…

They stand up to injustice.

They don’t take “no” for an answer

When they believe there is a better solution.

They go without so their family can have.

They go to the

Doctor with a frightened friend.

They love unconditionally.

They cry when their children excel

And cheer when their friends get awards.

They are happy when they hear about

A birth or a wedding.

Their hearts break when a friend dies.

They grieve at the loss of a family member,

Yet they are strong when they

Think there is no strength left.

They know that a hug and a kiss

Can heal a broken heart.

Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

They’ll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you

To show how much they care about you.

The heart of a woman is what

Makes the world keep turning.

They bring joy, hope and love.

They have compassion and ideas.

They give moral support to their

Family and friends.

Women have vital things to say

And everything to give..

Please pass this along to all your women friends and relatives to remind them just how amazing they are…
