Instead of spending a lot of time telling you about Mom’s 90th birthday, I’ll just show you. It was a great day, and so wonderful to have so many friends and family members come to visit Trini and celebrate the nine decades that she has graced this planet.

Family. Four generations, daughters, grandsons, granddaughter-in-law, great-granddaughter and nephew and niece.

Familia….Amigos!!!

Friends and family.

Mayor Kaptain of Elgin came to celebrate too.

Guests left notes and messages for Trini, and took a little party favor box with kisses from Trini. (Sorry Viv, Lin, and Vicky. I forgot to put those out till later. I’ll bring yours Tuesday.)

Thank you everyone who made it a very special day for Trini. You made her party one to remember. (Maybe another 90 years.)

Yesterday was a special birthday celebration for a special friend. Lynne is also wonderful wife, great mother and fantastic artist. Her husband and sons threw her a big birthday bash at Snug on the Square Friday night. Scary storms and possible tornadoes threatened just a couple of hours before the party. But, just as if wished away, the sky cleared and the sun came out. Surrounded by dear friends and family, it was an awesome party complete with good food and beverages, a cute cake, dancing, conversation, and plenty of hugs.

Happy birthday Lynne!

Look at this cute cake.

A lot of great friends.

A lot of dancing and partying.

Another fun video from my Zumba class yesterday at the McKinney YMCA, getting into the holiday spirit. Such fun!

We celebrated Della’s birthday at Towne Creek today. Her birthday is Christmas Eve, and that’s a heck of a time to have a birthday. But, hopefully we made it a special day for her. We worked on making some crafts, had a little feast, and sang happy birthday before digging into red velvet cake. My favorite part was when we held hands before our celebration and said what we were thankful for. Funny, everyone mentioned the wonderful friends we had made and shared our days with. That’s what it’s all about, my friends!

Friday: Better Late Than Never

12 Oct

Holy procrastination Batman! It’s after midnight. Where did the day go? It was busy, but I must have been exhausted. Today, we planned on celebrating Miss Bonnie’s and Mr.Angel’s birthday at Towne Creek. I went to the store for a few things, picked up a pizza, gathered the gifts and off I went. We had a nice celebration. Krys was there to celebrate and then guide us finishing our handmade paper bead angel project. So, here’s the procrastination part. After I got home, I decided just to crash in front of the television. Better yet, I’ll just lay down, put my feet up and watch my favorite shows. Fast forward…I must have really been tired… I fell asleep, woke up with a start, and it was after midnight. Holy cow! But, I can’t miss a post, so I grabbed my IPad to write this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK_DVuECIrg

Theme Song Thursday: Happy Birthday to Mom

7 Jun

Today was the big day, Mom’s birthday. I got up early to bake cupcakes and make frosting, and my sister bought a beautifully decorated chocolate cake for our 10am celebration with all her friends in the activity room. Mom’s usual coffee clutch friends were already waiting for her by the time we came down. Friends sprinkled in during the course of our three hour tour.(Gilligan reference.) Happy birthday was sung many times, as well as Las Mañanitas. (Traditional Mexican birthday song.) A good time was had by all!

In the spirit of family nostalgia, I spent a couple hours browsing through family photos after dinner. Mom’s maiden name is Aguirre, so I thought the Addam’s Family theme song would be appropriate for theme song Thursday. I used literary license and changed the name to The Aguirre Family. Hum along if you don’t get the YouTube video. And yes, her family is kooky, spooky and ooky.(Not really creepy, but that’s just my opinion.)

The Aguirre Family………………….

They’re creepy and they’re kooky,
Mysterious and spooky,
They’re all together ooky,
The Aguirre Family.
Their house is a museum
Where people come to see ’em
They really are a scream
The Aguirre Family.
(Neat)
(Sweet)
(Petite)
So get a witches shawl on
A broomstick you can crawl on
We’re gonna pay a call on

Happy Birthday, Mom!!! You’re the greatest!

Tedious Tuesday

16 Jan

I confess! I have an affable affinity for the allure of alliteration. It has plagued a plethora of playful print, and has spoliated many a splendid speech since my challenging childhood. There! I got that out of the way. But, there’s more.

Today, being another tedious Tuesday in Texas, I found it necessary to cordially conform to this criteria. A shimmering shawl of snow conveniently covered my car this morning, so I didn’t go to my cardio-crazed Zumba class. At noon, I was invited to yet another belated birthday brunch, then tea at two with the elegant Miss Eleanor. Afterwards, my fear of influenza forced me to find a pharmacy to get my first-ever flu shot. On my way home, I stopped at the store to purchase plenty of perishable items to prepare a delightful dinner.

Now that I have totally voided my vast vocabulary and beleaguered a bounty of other bloggers, I bid you a glorious goodnight. Enough already!!!

Thankful Thursday

10 Jan

They say that sixty is the new fifty. First of all, who are THEY? I tend to agree, but more from a cerebral mathematically calculated perspective. My current deteriorating and saggy sixty year old body feels more like an antique eighty year old body. But, on the other hand, my relentlessly inquisitive and creative mind feels like its only twenty years old. So, do the math. 80+20=100.To find the average or median, add the two integers and divide by two… VOILA… 50! I’ll take fifty. I prefer thirty, maybe even forty, but I’ll settle for fifty.

Today is only the first day in my newly acquired sixty year old skin. I remember when I thought sixty was soooo old. Now that I’m there, it’s not lookin’ so bad. I started off the day with an invigorating rockin’ Zumba class at the YMCA, a quick shower, off to my art club meeting followed by a weaving workshop, and home by 2pm. Once home, did my old bones collapse in the nearest leather recliner? No! I hadn’t eaten all day and was starving. So, I had a quick lunch, checked emails, played with the dogs, wrote this story and got ready for a fancy-dancy dinner.

The outside may be rusted and antiquated, but the inside still has a lot of mileage left. Happy Birthday to me!
