Toni’s Tuesday Time-lapse Video:) Christmas Ornament

17 Nov

“It’s that time of year when the world is filled with festive lights, love, and glitter. Lots of glitter.”

It’s been quite a while since I’ve done a time-lapse video. I’ve been struggling with an idea for my yearly Christmas ornament. I’ve been painting them for so many years that I’m running out of ideas. So, I’ve been playing around with some new patterns.

I’m not sure if I’ll use this one, but it was good practice.

I guess I’ll keep experimenting till it feels right.

Thursday:) Thinking Outside the Box

8 Dec

“Inventions are the necessity of motherhood.”

~ Toni Armenta Andrukaitis

“Thinking outside of the box is unnecessary when there are no boxes in your imagination.”

Matshona Dhliwayo

Forget that saying, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” I think mothers, and daughters, and wives, and sisters, and women in general are always inventing things to fulfill a particular need. Then, I think some man comes along and patents the idea and makes a lot of money. Just sayin’.

Last week, I was busy painting ornaments at Mom’s house. I only brought three brushes, three 2 oz bottles of paint, and some glitter. I couldn’t bring my huge makeshift tomato cages that I hang my ornaments on in my carry on backpack on the plane. So, I had to invent a drying rack. I scoured the closets, under beds, and cabinets in Mom’s tiny two bedroom condo. Hmm?

Light bulb moment. I took some hangers, a handful of clothes pins, a long handled broom, and scooted two dining chairs to form a drying rack. Don’t forget a large garbage bag beneath to collect any excess glitter. (Now, Mom’s house sparked with glitter…just like mine.)

I got all my ornaments and matching boxes painted and dispersed, and the glitter is put away. Oh wait! I’m still painting some Christmas cards too. I think I’ll add some glitter. A girl can never sparkle too much.

Here’s what the finished product looks like. I forgot to take a picture of my Chicago batch.

Wednesday Words of Wisdom:Losing Track of Time

4 Dec

“Everything man does today to be efficient, to fill the hour? It does not satisfy. It only makes him hungry to do more. Man wants to own his existence. But no one owns time. When you are measuring life, you are not living it.”
― Mitch Albom, The Time Keeper
When I get in the zone, I get zoned out and lose track of time. It’s common knowledge that I keep pretty busy and usually don’t sit still for very long. But, when I start painting my Christmas ornaments, I do A LOT OF SITTING.

I started off my morning with a long walk, lunch with my friend Zelda, another long walk, then…upstairs to paint. I’ve been at it for hours now, then all of a sudden I said out loud, “Oh crap!” I forgot to write my blog…or my “blob,” as my dear mother often calls it. I ran downstairs, grabbed my ipad, and started writing.

Here’s my big ol’ mess and distraction.

I do not own time, nor do I measure it. I just live it and paint…paint…paint. And yes, I lose track of time. Back to my passion. Signing out.

Montage Monday

“I find it inspiring to actively choose which traditions to celebrate and also come up with new ideas for traditions of my own.”
― Sara Sheridan
It’s been a busy week, even busier than my usual whirlwind weeks. Tis the season, the season that I start painting my Christmas ornaments. Then, this past weekend was Home for the Holidays on the Square. So, painting, partying, festivities, and more painting. I truly love the holidays. I keep busier than a horse fly at a rodeo. Busy is good!

Here’s a week in a peek.

My old traditions of creating hand-painted ornaments, decorating and massive baking will never change. Now, to create some new traditions in my new home, in my new life. Any suggestions?

This year’s creation.
