Wednesday Words of Wisdom: Family

16 Oct

“My dear young cousin, if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the eons, it’s that you can’t give up on your family, no matter how tempting they make it.”
― Rick Riordan
It was a long busy day yesterday, with an early walk, Zumba, baking, a birthday celebration and Creative Community meeting in the evening, but I was still looking forward to a late visit from my cousin Jeff. He was in town on business, just for a couple of days then back to Chicago. He had a long day, but said he’d come over after work and dinner.

He plugged my address into his GPSand was on his way at 9:00 pm. The phone app took him to a totally different city, and by the time he got redirected and to my house, it was almost 11. I felt bad that he had a round about scenic tour of north Texas.

We hadn’t seen each other in years, but we sat and talked and visited like it was yesterday. I made him one of my famous chocolate ice cream Black Russian drinks. Catching up and exchanging stories from childhood, family, happy times and bad times, we lost track of time. It was after 4 am before he headed back to his hotel almost an hour away. Yep, family is important. If you see family every day or once every ten years, blood is thicker than water. They are family and you love them just the same.

This is how I still see my little cousin in my eyes. He’s in his forties now, but he’ll always be my little cousin Jeff. (I stole this from his Facebook page.) thanks for a great visit, Cuz!
