Friday Fun in the Kitchen:) Bakin’ and Dancin’

30 Oct

Nothin’ says lovin’ like somethin’ from the oven while you’re dancin’ in the kitchen.

It’s been a dreary rainy day all day. I didn’t even set my alarm to go to Zumba this morning. I loligaggled all day, then decided to bake my Halloween mini cupcakes. The radio was on, so I just started dancing whenever a great classic oldie came on. Who needs Zumba? Well, I do, but I can take a day off and dance in my kitchen.

First, make a funny face with the batter. Then dance in the kitchen.

Then bake the cupcakes using marshmallows and chocolate chips. Then dance in the kitchen.

Then frost and decorate the cupcakes….and yes, more dancing in the kitchen. Disperse to friends and neighbors.

Theme Song Thursday: Dancing in the Kitchen

6 Feb

“Dance. Smile. Giggle. Marvel. TRUST. HOPE. LOVE. WISH. BELIEVE. Most of all, enjoy every moment of the journey, and appreciate where you are at this moment instead of always focusing on how far you have to go.”
― Mandy Hale

When it’s grey and gloomy, nothing perks you up like dancing. I started of the day with a super fun Zumba class. So much dancing, wiggling and giggling. After an hour of Latin dancing stirring up my Latin blood, I was pumped. It was cold, grey, and drizzling when I got home, but I put on a sweater, a jacket over that, a wool hat, pulled up my hood and took a brisk walk in the misty morning. I sang songs in my head and danced in my heart.

No matter how sad or mad I am, no matter how gloomy or cold outside, music will make me smile, singing brightens my day, and nothing, absolutely nothing feels more delightful than DANCING IN THE KITCHEN!!!

I know, I know, the “HAPPY” song has become annoying and over done, but I danced to it in my old house last year, with boxes piled everywhere, having to move and leave my home. It was a tough time, but I danced in the kitchen. Now, in my new house, everything is slowly getting organized and falling into place. Things are still tough, but nothing will stop me from dancing in the kitchen.

I was packing up some dishes this afternoon, when I realized I didn’t have any music playing. I’m suppose to be dancing in the kitchen everyday, right? So, I turned on my ipad and played a little Sinatra, Carole King, and Michael Bublé. While I was scrolling, I ran across a few songs that my son Joe had recorded during his college days. Or, maybe it was earlier, not sure, but I listened to dozens of his songs. It was great just to hear his voice singing just for me. My boys are so far away, and I miss them so much.

Then, I smiled when I heard, “Hello.” I used to have that as his ring tone on my old phone, but I couldn’t figure out how to get it back on my new phone. (iphone challenged) The song made me think about my sons, my family and the things that make me smile. Joe is getting married next year to his lovely fiancé, Lindsay and I can’t wait. I’m so excited.

So, as I pack up my old life and start the next chapter of my old story, a new story will unfold, with new exciting chapters of hope and promise. Not just for them, but for me too.

“Hello, my friend, hello.” I hope all your chapters and stories have a happy ending.
