Sunday Super Bowls and Sciuridae

3 Feb

The trouble with weather forecasting is that it’s right too often for us to ignore it and wrong too often for us to rely on it.

Ah, you already know what Super BOWLS are, or do you? But, I bet you don’t know what a Sciuridae is. Am I right? I didn’t either. Here ya go….
The groundhog, also known as a woodchuck, whistle-pig, or in some areas land-beaver, is a rodent of the family “Sciuridae,” belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots. Wikipedia
Scientific name: Marmota monax
Higher classification: Marmot
Rank: Species

This year, the Super Bowl and Ground Hog Day land on the same day. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today, thus signifying that the Broncos would not see the football much and would experience six more weeks of winter. Did I mix that up? Well, you know what I mean.

My friend Linda and her husband went to Woodstock, Illinois for the reenactment of the movie version of “Groundhog Day.” She shared some photos. Woodstock Willie saw his shadow there too. I guess there is a big ol’ shadow all over the country. It’s been a gloomy grey winter all around.

That’s Willie… The furry fellow or Sciuridae, as we now know.

Hi Linda, thanks for the pics.(Linda is the one not in the furry costume.)

Now, for the other Super BOWL. Just a reminder that if you are in McKinney on Thursday, make sure to attend St. Peter’s Empty Bowls fundraiser. This BOWL is so much more important and significant than a group of overpaid athletes throwing a ball around for a few hours.
