Theme Song Thursday: Where Do Those Golden Rainbows End?

2 May

“Donde termina el arco iris,
en tu alma o en el horizonte?

Where does the rainbow end,
in your soul or on the horizon?”
― Pablo Neruda, The Book of Questions
**************
I had a lovely dinner with my friend Della tonight. We went to Chili’s and I ate 7,568 chips with salsa and artichoke dip. Well, maybe only 5,439 chips, and that was all before the sizzling fajitas arrived. Woooo! Driving home after a long, leisurely dinner, we saw this amazing rainbow. Maybe it wasn’t a rainbow because it was perpendicular, straight up and down. Maybe not a rainbow, but a rainstick or a rainfinger, who knows? Anyway, it was pretty cool.

Of course, rainbows made me think of a song, and because James Taylor is on a continual loop on my car Bluetooth, “Long Ago and Far Away,” popped into my head. “Where do those golden rainbows end? Why is this song so sad?” There’s always a song in my head, so that’s where today’s theme song came from. Rainbows and sad songs…

James Taylor: Long Ago and Far Away

Long ago, a young man sits and plays his waiting game.
But things are not the same it seems as in such tender dreams.
Slowly passing sailing ships and Sunday afternoon.
Like people on the moon I see are things not meant to be.

Where do those golden rainbows end? Why is this song so sad?
Dreaming the dreams I’ve dreamed my friend, loving the love I love
to love is just a word I’ve heard when things are being said.
Stories my poor head has told me cannot stand the cold.
And in between what might have been and what has come to pass,
a misbegotten guess alas and bits of broken glass.

Where do your golden rainbows end? Why is this song I sing so sad?
Dreaming the dreams I dream my friend, loving the love I love to love to love to love.

It was a lot more colorful in real-live-person.

Foot Fetish Friday

22 Feb

Whenever I see your smiling face
I have to smile myself
Because I love you (Yes, I do)
-James Taylor
************
Ah, you are probably wondering…foot fetish, what’s that all about? I was trying to decide what to write about today, so I went through my thousands of pictures on my iPad for inspiration. (I do that a lot.)

I ran across this picture of my boys when they were just knee high to a grasshopper. Wow! That’s an old one. It reminded me of happy times when every little thing my babies did was amazing. Now, my babies are grown men, far away from my yearning eyes and arms, but they still make me smile.

My ringtone on my cell phone plays James Taylor’s, “Your Smiling Face, whenever my boys call. So appropriate! Another James Taylor kinda day.
***************
Whenever I see your smiling face
I have to smile myself
Because I love you (Yes, I do)
And when you give me that pretty little pout
It turns me inside out
There’s something about you, baby (I don’t know)……………

I bet this made you smile too!

Theme Song Thursday: You’ve Got a Friend

21 Feb

I learned very early in life that: “Without a song, the day would never end; without a friend, a man ain’t got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend- without a song” So I keep singing a song.
Elvis Presley
***************
I’m a creature of habit, good habits and bad habits, plus I don’t like change. One of my habits (still not sure if it’s good or bad) is that once I put a CD in the car, it stays there for months. I listen to it over and over and over. I sing along till the cows come home. Well, I don’t have any cows, but you know what I mean.

The CD for this season is James Taylor. I love James Taylor! One of my favorite songs is “you’ve got a friend.” Friendship is so important to me, and I’ve been blessed with countless wonderful loving friends.

I’d like to think that there have been times when I have been a good friend when someone has been troubled and needed a helping hand. But, so many friends have been there for me, especially these past few months…..
“Hey, ain’t it good to know that you’ve got a friend? People can be so cold.
They’ll hurt you and desert you. Well, they’ll take your soul if you let them,
oh yeah, but don’t you let them.”

That’s the theme song for today. “Ain’t it good to know?” Yes, I am blessed, and I’ll keep singing a song.

“You’ve Got A Friend”
James Taylor

When you’re down and troubled and you need a helping hand
and nothing, whoa, nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there
to brighten up even your darkest nights.

You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I’ll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I’ll be there, yeah, yeah,
you’ve got a friend.

If the sky above you should turn dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind should begin to blow,
keep your head together and call my name out loud.
Soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I’ll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I’ll be there.

Hey, ain’t it good to know that you’ve got a friend? People can be so cold.
They’ll hurt you and desert you. Well, they’ll take your soul if you let them,
oh yeah, but don’t you let them.

You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am
I’ll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call, Lord, I’ll be there, yeah, yeah,
you’ve got a friend. You’ve got a friend.
Ain’t it good to know you’ve got a friend. Ain’t it good to know you’ve got a friend.
Oh, yeah, yeah, you’ve got a friend.

Theme Song Thursday

9 Aug

The last few weeks, I’ve discovered how many truly wonderful friends I have. I also have a wonderful family, (well, most of them.) and then, I’ve made some fun friends while blogging on wordpress.com. Today, a fellow blogger commented on one of my posts, and she always has a funny comment. I replied that I was going to write about, “The nicest people I’ve never met.” So, this one’s for youse guys!

Theme Song Thursday: Smiling Face

29 Mar

This morning, while making my brownies for our tennis match, I did what every good baker does. I made a funny face with the brownie mix. This one looked like a smiley face. But then, when I moved the measuring cup that had the canola oil in it, it left this ring on the cutting board. Another smiley face. Eerie! So, it was a SMILEY FACE kinda day.

What better song for theme song Thursday than James Taylor’s, “Whenever I see Your Smiling Face.” ( I had to smile myself….) Everyone, sing along!

LYRICS:

Whenever I see your smiling face
I have to smile myself
Because I love you (Yes, I do)
And when you give me that pretty little pout
It turns me inside out
There’s something about you, baby (I don’t know)

(Chorus)
Isn’t it amazing a man like me
Can feel this way
Tell me how much longer
It will grow stronger every day
Oh, how much longer

I thought I was in love
A couple of times before
With the girl next door
But that was long before I met you
Now I’m sure that I won’t forget you
And I thank my lucky stars
That you are who you are
And not just another lovely lady
Sent down to break my heart

Isn’t it amazing a man like me
Can feel this way
Tell me how much longer
It can grow stronger every day
How much longer

No one can tell me that I’m doing wrong today
