Friday:) Faith, Friends, Firemen and a Little Frank Sinatra

1 Feb

“It’s always difficult to keep Fridays confined within themselves… they tend to spill over…”

***************

My Friday started out with a frenzy of errands. Then, a stop at church for Adoration, to calm my soul, light a candle, and pray for special intentions. It’s a beautiful feeling when I take a deep breath and all my muscles relax, and my heart beat slows down. A beautiful place inside and out.

After texting and checking if my sick neighbor needed anything, I stopped at the store to get her some eggs and orange juice. I also decided to get the fixings to make a big batch of chicken soup for her. (Another story) I dropped the bag on her front porch bench, as she doesn’t want to get me sick if she is contagious.

Also, a stop at Fire Station 9 to drop of some of Miss Pat’s famous cookies.

My evening was going to be fun. I picked up Helene and Denna at 6 for our concert at MPAC on the square. Dave Halston was performing a Frank Sinatra Tribute at 8. It was a sold out concert. When we arrived, we saw our friends Loretta and Linda who were volunteer ushers for the event.

Dave Halston and his band were great. They played so many of Frank Sinatra greatest songs, and Dave threw in a few funny jokes. It felt like a Vegas show right in our little local theatre.

Then, seeing as it’s Friday night….

Friday:) Friends, Fun Music, and (Yep) More Firemen)

Wow! Woke up to chilly weather, and had to bundle up to take Bella for a walk. Ok, I know youse guys (Chicago talk) up North got snow, but this is Texas, for goodness sakes. But, that doesn’t slow me down. I enjoyed the challenge. The vibrant fall colored leaves were scattered on the sidewalks as I walked.

I was looking forward to dinner and a concert with my Single Mingle friends tonight. But first, a stop at the fire station. I had a few brownies left and Miss Pat said I could take the leftover cookies from karaoke over to “my firemen.”

Our group met at Mellow Mushroom for dinner.

Then, over to MPAC for the concert Red, White and Big Band, featuring the McKinney Dance Band and the Swazzy Singers. They were honoring veterans with patriotic music and big band music of the different eras gone by.

It was a fun day, and a great evening. Music always brightens my soul.

Friday:) Four Funny Females and a Sometimes Humorous Human (Me)

Last Saturday, I had the honor of being an usher at MPAC, McKinney Performing Art Center,  for the Four Funny Females comedy show. My friend, Laura Bartlett, is the producer and one of the hilarious ladies who can make an audience cry with laughter at every performance.

If you haven’t caught a performance, there’s another one coming up March 4 at 8pm at MPAC. I don’t think it’s sold out yet, so get your tickets soon.

The neat part of being an usher is all the people watching you get to do. In the front row were 8 ladies who were out on the town for a bachelorette party. They all wore party hats that said PRINCESS, and the bride-to-be had a veil on hers. Her elderly and tipsy aunt informed me that the girl in the veil was the princess-bride. I went over and offered to take a few photos of the group.

Laura and the girls were very funny.

After the performance, I was invited backstage to visit with the gals and take a photo. You may think I’m very special, right? Nope! Everyone was invited to visit backstage.

I’m very lucky to have such great, talented, and funny friends. I’m just a regular humorous human. But, I have a few friends that think I’m pretty funny. Hey Laura….I’m available anytime you need a back-up. I’m a very loving friend…
