Thankful Thursday: This is What Art is All About

“To create art with all the passion in one’s soul is to live art with all the beauty in one’s heart.”

Art has always been in my soul! and I feel so blessed to have that desire and ability to write, paint, and express my world. I also believe that it’s a gift that everyone has, you just have to open your eyes and your heart and find it.

Today was an especially fun day. I knew I had our monthy Art Club of McKinney meeting at 9:30 but I also didn’t want to miss Zumba, so I did both. I went to Zumba at the Y and danced my little heart out, did a quick change and scooted to Art Club by 10. A little late, but in time for the demo.

Everyone was looking forward to our guest artist demo by Pernie Fallon. She is an amazing McKinney pastel artist, and a friend. Being a high school art teacher, she also is experienced at teaching and explaining every aspect of her work.

By the time the demo was over, everyone who never worked with pastels wanted to try it, and those who already worked with them were inspired.

At the end of the meeting, I stayed to help clean up and help Miss Pernie gather up her materials. My mother raised her girls to always tidy up and help others. So, when I helped Pernie carry all her paintings, easels and bags to her car, she was very appreciative. When the last easel was tucked away safely in her car, she asked, “Would you like the little demo painting?”

Oh my goodness! I thought my dentures were going to fall out, and I don’t even wear dentures. I was so honored. I am now the proud owner of an original Pernie Fallon pastel. Whenever I do little kindnesses for others, it always seems to turn around and bless me twice fold.

When I drove away, I felt so honored, that little tears trickled down my face. (Thank you Miss Pernie.) The day continued to be uplifting. I had a fun lunch with Sherry, strolled around the square, stopped at the store, came home, walked for an hour and a half, chatted with some neighbors, and now, here I am. Needless to say, I had an amazing day.

This is the pastel painting Pernie Fallon gave me. (I still can’t believe it.) WOW!
