Sunday:) Happy Easter:) Resurrection, Renewal, Revival

2 Apr

“The symbolic language of the crucifixion is the death of the old paradigm; resurrection is a leap into a whole new way of thinking.”

~Deepak Chopra

Happy Easter everyone. I hope you had a good day. I certainly did. I started out very early, greeting at Mass, smiling, hugging, and shaking hands with friends and strangers at church.

Easter Sunday, for us Catholics and Christians, is the most important day of all. The resurrection of Our Lord after being crucified, suffering death, buried, then the miraculous resurrection. Easter always makes me think about the sacrifice, the love, and the gift we humans have been given by our creator. I also tend to analyze the definition of the words we use.

There are many meanings and definitions for the word resurrection…

res·ur·rec·tion  (rĕz′ə-rĕk′shən)

n.1.a. The act of restoring a dead person, for example, to life.

b. The condition of having been restored to life.

2. ResurrectionChristianity

a. The return of Jesus to life on the third day after the Crucifixion.

b. The restoration of the dead to life at the Last Judgment.

3. The act of bringing back to practice, notice, use, or vibrancy; revival: the resurrection of an old custom; the resurrection of a decrepit neighborhood.

This made me think about my own life. Today is the perfect time for my own personal resurrection. Not dying and coming back to life in the literal sense, but a REVIVAL, bringing back a VIBRANCY or LIFE back into my world. Time for a change, starting fresh. Easter and Spring and renewal go hand-in-hand.

After church, I stopped at Sprouts for my weekly fix of fruits and vegetables. They have the best sales. Walnuts on sale $3.99 a pound. Wow! I bought three pounds.

While I was leaving the store, I noticed a Fantastic Sam’s Hair Salon right next door. They were open. A sign… Hmm???

What better way to start anew, a change, a renewal and resurrection? Time for a haircut. I’ve had long frizzy curly bothersome hair for over 50 years. Time for an extreme change. Just Do It, as Mr. Nike would say. So, I did it. Chopped it all off.

What do you think?????

It’s short and sassy and makes me look ten years younger. I love it!

So, not to have missed my special day, I hope you enjoyed my little story and joke. NO! I didn’t cut my hair that short. Actually, my hair is so goofy and curly, it would never look that good short. I took this picture at Mom’s house last year. I was fooling around with her and put on one of her many red wigs that she had in her closet. I said, “Look, my name is Grandma.” We both laughed. But, I did look a little like my sweet mother. I’m sure she’s smiling down from heaven now.

This is how I looked today and will look tomorrow. You decide. Should I go for the haircut for real???

Theme Song Thursday:) Fresh Start… New Year

1 Jan

Every new year begins with a new start, and a new calendar page wih the number “1 ” on it. YOU are the only “1” who can make it a good “1.”

I always find New Year’s Eve to be a day of reflection and a day of optimism all rolled into one.  So many  resolutions  that will be long forgotten by March. My resolution this year is to absolutely make NO resolutions. I plan to continue what I’ve been doing all my life, and that is being the best ME that I can be. I think I’ve done a pretty good job so far,

While I was taking my long morning walk, I reflected on the past few years. They haven’t been so great, to say the least. But this will be a great year. “Something’s Coming.” Like the song from Westside Story says, “I don’t know what it is, but it is…gonna be great.”

2013~ A year of BETRAYAL. After 43 years of loving one man, I was blindsided, betrayed,     and thrown aside like a piece of garbage. I lost my marriage, lost my smile, lost a lot of weight, and ended up in the emergency room, almost losing my life. But, I never lost my faith nor the love of friends and family.

2014~ A year of UPHEAVAL. I spent the year forced to sell and leave my home, pack up 39 years of memories, find a new home, and survive a gut-wrenching divorce. My life was turned upside down. In my 60’s, I had to start a new life. But, I never lost my faith nor the love of friends and family.

2015~ A year of TRANSITION. Established and comfortable in my new home for a whole year, I made new friends, enjoyed my old friends, and started to work on my new life. My son got married to an adorable girl in July, I spent time with old friends back home, and finally started feeling a little less lost and alone. I was dancing in the kitchen again. And I never lost my faith nor the love of friends and family.

2016~ A year or RENEWAL. This will be a wonderful year! I know it will! My year of Renewal! A new calendar page. “Something’s Coming.”

Happy New Year to all my friends and family. YOU put the HAPPY in Happy New Year! Love you ALL!

Saturday:Resetting the Clocks

4 Jan

“I’ve read somewhere in a book when something happens that is unbearable to you, sometimes, time stops. Like your inner clock just stops working, even if the world keeps spinning you will stand still for the rest of your life.”
― Katja Michael, She Came at Dawn

I seem to find symbolism in everything. Maybe it’s just the writer in me, but inspirational signs or interesting people always seem pop into my life. Maybe that old expression is true, “If you are looking for a sign, this is it!” I guess I’m always looking for one.

Last night, we had a few thunder-boomers here in McKinney. My power flickered on and off, on and off, for an hour. I reset the clocks on the stove, but then, the power went out completely. Ah, a sign! Just go to bed.

When I woke up this morning, the clocks were all blinking and the thermostats were all discombobulated. Now, to find my glasses and try to figure out how to reset all the “blanking” blinking appliances. It’s a new house, and everything is totally different. While I quietly cursed under my breath, it occurred to me, this is another symbol or metaphor in my long list of daily signs.

Starting a new life, a new chapter, is never easy. Sometimes we have to reset the clocks, reprogram the thermostats, and keep plugging away. I thought it was funny because this all happened around New Year’s. I already had it in my mind that I needed to start a new chapter in my life with the new year. My inspirational word and mantra for 2015 is RENEWAL. Maybe it should be…RESET.

Theme Song Thursday and Theme Word for 2015

2 Jan

“For within your flesh, deep within the center of your being, is the undaunted, waiting, longing, all-knowing. Is the ready, able, perfect. Within you, waiting its turn to emerge, piece by piece, with the dawn of every former test of trial and blackness, is the next unfolding, the great unfurling of wings, the re-forged backbone of a true Child of Light.”
― Jennifer DeLucy

Today is the first day of 2015. It’s a new day, a new year, a new everything. Many of my friends pick a word that will be their mantra or theme to give them inspiration for the entire year. I always struggle to find the perfect word. What would you choose?

I thought long and hard, and I knew it had to be a word that began with “re.” I went to the dictionary and thesaurus, and looked at every word that started with “re.” There are a lot, believe me. Here’s what I came up with…

RENEWAL
re·new·al\ri-ˈnü-əl, -ˈnyü-\
noun
: the act of extending the period of time when something is effective or valid : the act of renewing something
: the state of being made new, fresh, or strong again : the state of being renewed
Full Definition
1 : the act or process of renewing : repetition
2 : the quality or state of being renewed
3 : something (as a subscription to a magazine) renewed
4 : something used for renewing; specifically : an expenditure that betters existing fixed assets
5 : the rebuilding of a large area (as of a city) by a public authority
*************

I like RENEWAL! A state of being made new, fresh, or strong again. I especially like being made strong again. Yes, that’s the perfect word. This will be my word for 2015.

Do you have a word? What is it? If you don’t have one yet, think about it, and let me know what word you picked.

I looked for the perfect theme song for today. I almost picked a sad song, but then found this. Yep! This, is much better.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, MY FRIENDS! It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new year.

Shattered Past

Broken windows, shattered past
Those golden days that never last
When things were new, and life was good
The years flew by misunderstood
With panes all broken, and bricks now grey
The happy memories fade away
But time moves on, as people do
There’s still that chance to start anew.
