Montage Monday:) A Week In A Peek

22 Jun

“Your Monday morning thoughts set the tone for your whole week. See yourself getting stronger, and living a fulfilling, happier and healthier life.”

Germany Kent

Today is the first full day of Summer, or the Solstice, which started last night June 20, at 10:32 pm Central time. Summer is officially here and it’s the longest day of the year….oh wait, that rhymes. I feel a poem coming on…

Our Summer is officially here

It is the longest day of the year.

An early dawn and and a shorter night

The sun each day will be at its height….

(I could go on, but I will spare you🤦‍♀️)

I woke up this morning inspired by the thought of Summer. I scoured through some papers, books, and notebooks and found a blank spiral notebook to begin some thoughts, dreams and plans for my summer. More on that tomorrow.

Here is a week in a summer peek…

Feeling blessed…Happy Monday, my friends.

“If my week flew by any faster, I would have to consult the air traffic control tower.”

I can’t believe it’s August already. Where did Spring go? Summer is in its full and furious sultry swing. Here’s my week in a peek.

I must be pretty respectable, because I’m feeling pretty lazy these days. Too darn hot out!

The weeks fly by in the Summer haze

With steamy dawns and warm liquid days

Then friends will gather to cheer and toast

For these are the times we cherish most.

An original poem for some wonderful original memories of this past week. Good friends, fine wine, sweet treats, and all pure love.

The heat is still here, but that’s OK. I don’t mind it too much. I got up and out the door by 7:10 to walk/run. I had a 9:15 doctor appointment, went over to Zelda’s and walked her neighborhood, Olive Garden for lunch, then we went to see the movie, The Gift. (Pretty entertaining, a little suspense, I didn’t fall asleep.) Then a few hours with bills , emails, now my blog, followed by an evening walk as soon as I get done here. It’s getting dark, I better hurry. Happy Monday!

It’s been a long hot summer! It’s Texas…we ain’t done yet!

Friday From the Frying Pan into the Fire

21 Jun

“Escaping goblins to be caught by wolves!” he said, and it became a proverb, though we now say ‘out of the frying-pan into the fire’ in the same sort of uncomfortable situations.”
-J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

Jumping from the frying pan into the fire is an idiom with the general meaning of escaping a bad situation for a worse situation. It was made the subject of a 15th-century fable that eventually entered the Aesopic canon.

It’s a hot one out there with no end in sight. Remember in January and February when we were complaining about the frigid cold? Well, I knew I’d soon be complaining about the sweltering heat. Here we are!

My car temperature fluctuated from 99 to 100 on my way home from Towne Creek this evenings, and it’s pretty accurate.

Not sure which extreme temperature I can complain about the most, BUT, I have a feeling now I think we are out of the frying pan and headin’ smack dab into the fire.

Here we go!!!

Sizzlin’ Saturday

8 Jun

What dreadful hot weather we have! It keeps me in a continual state of inelegance.

Well, we finally went and did it. All that complaining about our dreadful winter and freezing temps, I knew I’d start complaining about the heat soon enough.

I got up early for a walk, but it was already in the 80’s. I went to a 9:30 Zumba class right afterwards, and by the time I slid my sweaty self into the car at 10:45, I thought I was going to melt. 90’s are not fun…but we’ve only just begun the summer. Wait, it isn’t even officially summer yet.

I spent the afternoon on the Square, and ran into my friend Sherri at Snug. What made this such a cool coincidence is, (excuse the pun) she had recently found an old friend on Facebook and they were getting together after not seeing each other in twenty-five years. I enjoyed having lunch with them and meeting Mary. How cool is that? I know Facebook gets a bad rap sometimes, but, it does have its merits.

After hanging on the Square, I came home and decided to cool off by cleaning out the freezer. Not really a good idea on a warm day, but it was refreshing to handle massive quantities of frozen vegetables, containers of soups, etc. I was cool, but the freezer was churning hard.

So, now I’m just waiting for it to cool off for an evening walk. Well, that ain’t gonna happen. It’s 8 pm and it’s cooled down to 91. I think that’s as good as it’s gonna get. Better get going before dark. Hope you stay cool!

Friday: First Day of Summer

22 Jun

The first day of summer in North Texas was warm, to say the least. It was only in the 90’s, so everyone was happy. It’s only gonna get hotter. The inside of a car becomes a self-contained convection oven. Thank goodness for air conditioning!

The First Day of Summer Lyrics
Ostara

The curtains are closed
and veiled in the light of morning
The windows sealed, black mirrors to the void
The books of magic line the empty hallway
The oval prtrait hanging on the wall, it will fall

It’s the first day of summer,
but you are frozen in the fields
It’s the first light of the summer,
but you are wrapped in high ordeals
(2x)

The orchards green and overgrown with sorrow
This house is now a harbour for the last
The final notes, they break in our hymn to beauty
The face of life, a vain and tragic mask of the past

It’s the first day of summer
but you are frozen in the fields
It’s the first light of the summer
but you are wrapped in high ordeals
(2x)

The sky above, not filled with gods or angels
The soul on its path of no return
I hear a voice, a stirring in the silence
But is this just an echo of the dearth in the earth?
