Tenacious Tuesday

14 May

“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure , the process is its own reward.”
Amelia Earhart

Today was a very tenacious Tuesday. I was busier than a horsefly at a rodeo. Call Mom, straighten the house a little, Zumba at 8:30, scramble home, shower, cut up and package brownies, gather art supplies and paints for Tuesday tea time, and be out of the house by 11:45 am. (I’m tired already.)

Whenever I bake a double batch of brownies, I take a container over to Fire Station 5. They always appreciate a sweet little treat from a sweet little old lady. Paramedic Floyd looks pretty happy.

Then, off to McKinney’s Sweet Spot Bakery for tea time, treats and tunes. Miss Kay, Karen and I had our ukuleles, and we strummed a few tunes. Miss Kay played, Karen and I held down the C chord and pretended to play. During our intermission, we worked on painting daisy notecards and on glass votive candles. They did a great job.

Karen can play a mean C chord and paint a mean candle. Mandy left before I could snap a picture.
I hung out until 5:30, then off too McKinney Creative Community pot luck at SPARC. That’s what the other batch of brownies was for. This is a great group of writers, artists, teachers and other creative people that meets the second Tuesday of each month. After chatting, socializing, and eating, we sit around in a big circle, taking turns introducing ourselves and sharing “what’s new and good.” It’s a great networking group, plus, there’s always good food and conversation.

It was a twelve hour tenacious Tuesday. Always crazy busy, always crazy fun.

Tuesday: Tea Time and Tunes

19 Mar

“When tea becomes ritual, it takes its place at the heart of our ability to see greatness in small things. Where is beauty to be found? In great things that, like everything else, are doomed to die, or in small things that aspire to nothing, yet know how to set a jewel of infinity in a single moment?”
― Muriel Barbery, The Elegance of the Hedgehog

Our Tuesday tea time and tunes at Sweet Spot Bakery has become quite the ritual. Different friends pop in and out. We chat, sing, sip tea and enjoy a lovely afternoon. Today, a young mom and her ten month old son joined us. The little guy enjoyed the music and running up and down the entire length of the shop.

It was a gorgeous afternoon on the Square in downtown McKinney. The sun was shining and the air was filled with laughter.

Tuesday Tips, Tea, Tunes and Time With Friends

11 Feb

“You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching,
Love like you’ll never be hurt,
Sing like there’s nobody listening,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.”
― William W. Purkey

Another sing-a-long and tea time at Sweet Spot bakery on the Square. Miss Kay brought her ukulele, too. Fun afternoon with friends. If your heart doesn’t sing and your soul dance, then what’s the point?

Theme Song Thursday:Tea for Two

“There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.”
― Henry James, The Portrait of a Lady

Tea time is my favorite time of day. Of course, I sit and sip on my tea five or six times a day, so I guess all day is my favorite tea time. A couple of months ago, I was chatting with my friend Kathy, who owns the yummy bakery on the Square. We threw around some ideas about her hosting a special Tuesday tea at McKinney’s Sweet Spot.

Well, it’s official. Starting next week, Sweet Spot Bakery will host an exciting Tuesday Tea Time every week with treat, tunes and Toni. A special Tuesday offering of tea (or coffee for the non-tea lovers) with a sampler of Miss Elizabeth’s delicious baked goods, will be available. Miss Kathy, also a professional singer, will have her handy karaoke machine set up in case a spontaneous sing-a-long breaks out, or someone wants to belt out a tune.

Toni (that would be me) loves her show tunes, but I also love my arts and crafts projects. So, I said I would offer a hands-on art or craft demonstration. Anyone interested could create a greeting card or other fun project. I enjoy showing people, especially those who say they couldn’t possibly make anything creative, how to make something beautiful in a short time. We’ll be sipping tea, sampling divine desserts, singing tunes and spreading our artistic wings.

Special Tuesday TEA FOR TWO only $10. That’s only $5 a person. Bring a friend or a bunch of friends. It will be a blast!
But stop in anytime. Sweet Spot is open Tuesday through Sunday. Great coffee and teas, wonderful baked goods, ice cream, and breakfast and lunch always served with a smile and an occasional song.
