Theme Song Thursday:) I Light a Candle For You

28 Jul

“A single candle in the dark of night, a tiny flicker with a brilliant light.”

“Look at how a single candle can both defy and define the darkness.” ― Anne Frank

Before our weekly support group at St. Gabriel’s, I always walk into the dimly lit sanctuary to bless myself with holy water from the font. Last night, there wasn’t a soul in sight. Perhaps unseen souls were there, but unbeknownst to me. There are two walls on opposite sides near the back with rows of votive candles. One side has a painting of the Blessed Mother Mary, and the other side has St. Joseph, the carpenter, with his young apprentice, Jesus.

Given an option, I light a candle beneath the guiding eyes of St. Joseph. This is to pray for my son Joseph and his new family, but also my son Matthew, and the rest of my family and friends. I always have the same prayer, “Health and happiness for my family and friends.” Then, I add a specific intention here and there.

I’m a strong believer in prayers, which are basically those silent thoughts and wishes in your mind.

Theme Song Thursday:Clouds

4 Jul

“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.”
― Rabindranath Tagore, Stray Birds
***************

Summer here in north Texas has been stormy, breezy, sunny, muggy, rainy, and steamy…all in the same day. But, the changeable weather and summer sky has been the spectacular backdrop for amazing clouds and beautiful sunsets. I love the interesting cloud formations that splatter and paint the sky.

For theme song Thursday, I wax nostalgic to the old Joni Mitchell song that mentions, “I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now…”

Both Sides Now
by Joni Mitchell

Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way

I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It’s cloud illusions I recall
I really don’t know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I’ve looked at love that way

But now it’s just another show
You leave ’em laughing when you go
And if you care, don’t let them know
Don’t give yourself away

I’ve looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It’s love’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say “I love you” right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I’ve looked at life that way

But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I’ve changed
Well something’s lost, but something’s gained
In living every day

I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all

I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all
