Toni’s Tuesday Time-lapse:) Painting Blue Crab Wine Glasses

26 May

“I never realized why people are called crabby sometimes. Did you ever see a crab? Not very handsome.”

My dear friend Joni asked me if I could paint some lobsters on some wine glasses for her, and I said I’d give it a try. She gave me a tea towel with the picture on it and she said, “Oh, I guess it’s a crab and not a lobster.” I wouldn’t know the difference. I don’t eat anything that swims in the water.

I always have to research, practice on paper and do a test sample on glass before I get to the real thing. It may look easy, but it takes several days to do a simple project. But, a challenge is a challenge.

After researching some clip art photos, I painted a repurposed vase with variegated blues and white to simulate the sea. This blue FolkArt Enamel glass paint is not very opaque, so it doesn’t show up well on clear glass. Thus, the white background. The practice vase turned out pretty good, so that will be an extra surprise for Joni. Surprise!

After a practice sample, I discovered it I base coated the crab first with a light blue combo blue/white, that the white paint would make the blue more opaque. Then, after it dried, the cobalt blue would stand out better on the glass. The tricky part is painting exactly on top of the previous layer. It takes a steady hand and nerves of steal. I laughed because I literally found myself holding my breath on the fine detailed parts. 🤦‍♀️

I think they turned out pretty darn good. Now, they need to dry over night and bake in the oven tomorrow.

Now, for a glass of wine. It’s National Wine Day. I’m running out of time, 11:40 pm. 🍷 Cheers!

I did a white pencil portrait of my oldest granddaughter quite a while ago. I ran across the reference photo of the youngest granddaughter today while I was straightening up my desk. Hey, there’s no time like the present.

Toni’s Tuesday Time-Lapse Video- Easy Easter Cross

“When you have so much fun playing and creating crafts and artwork, ya just gotta share.”

This was a fun little project. I was trying to think of a few quick and easy projects to use when Helene and I go to Towne Creek this Friday. We haven’t been able to meet with our senior art friends in just about a year now. We are going to wear masks and distance, with only one person per table, but it will be so good to see everyone again. Yay!

I just used a wood shape for a template to trace and Crayola washable markers and water.

Here’s another one with a similar concept, but then I glued a small wooden cross in the middle for a 3-D look. SO EASY! (I made a regular time video of this, but it’s taking forever to upload, so I may give up on adding the video now. Yep, taking forever. I’ll see if it ever uploads and I’ll add it on later on tonight. 🤦‍♀️

OK…an hour later… here’s the other video…

See ya later alligator… oops, or is it a crocodile?

“Creating is just playing with ideas in your head until they become real.”

It’s always such fun to come up with an idea for my Tuesday Time-lapse video. NOT! It takes me all day to think of a project. I watch videos, go through my ideas file, and rummage through my art supplies until I think of something. Then, I just give up and settle for the last idea in my brain. That’s call PROCRASTINATION IMAGINATION.

Well, this DUMB site is not allowing me to post photos again…🤦‍♀️ So, hopefully you can watch the video. Sorry.

Very frustrating!

Toni’s Tuesday Time-Lapse Video W/Crayola Markers

For today’s time-lapse painting video, I decided to do something SO simple that anyone can play with it. All you need are some Crayola Markers, a sheet of watercolor paper, (I cut mine 8×10 sheet in 1/4) a paint brush and some water. Doesn’t get easier than that.

The kids would love to play with markers, too.
