Friday:) Finally Back at Towne Creek, Friends, Food, and My McKinney Firefighters.

3 Apr

I’d like to be settled into somewhat of a normal life. Somewhat. I know it’s never going to be completely normal.

Well, today was the day. The first time in exactly a year since Helene and I were able to go to Towne Creek Senior Apartments for our arts and crafts group. We were both so excited. We took enough food, drinks, snacks, and art projects to last a month. I’ll show you the baking and food frenzy another time.

The ladies made all kinds of Easter projects. Bunny bags, wooden cross hangers, and cross book marks.
Helene and I made up bag lunches with lots of food and goodies, plus extra to take home for later. It was a fun afternoon.

On my way home, I stopped off at Station 9 to drop off some Peep cupcakes. I had stopped at 1:30 on my way to Towne Creek, but everyone was out on a call. On my way home around 6, I caught them in the middle of dinner. Just in time for dessert.

It’s almost 9 pm, I’ve been on my feet all day and I’m exhausted… in a good way. Thank goodness it’s Friday.

Cheers, my friends!

Tuesday:) Towne Creek Seniors Say Thank You to McKinney Fire Fighters

8 May

“Unselfish and noble actions are the most radiant pages in the biography of souls.”. ~David Thomas

My dear friends at Towne Creek Senior Apartments hosted their annual Fire Fighter appreciation lunch today. Their theme was Taco Tuesday. I decided to make Mexican brownies. I told the ladies, “You know why they’re Mexican brownies? Because I made them!” A little family ancestry humor. 🤦‍♀️

I stopped off at my nearby Station 9 with a tray of brownies on my way to pick up Helene. They were having some special training this morning, so several different fire trucks from different stations were there. This very nice fireman was getting out of his truck, so I asked him if he would take the brownies in for me. He was more than happy to oblige.

When we arrived at Towne Creek, the ladies were all buzzing around cooking, setting tables, and making all the preparations. The residents were patiently waiting in the hall to greet the firefighters when they arrived. You never know when there is an emergency, so everyone was patient.

Station 6 arrived around noon, and were greeted with cheers, handshakes and hugs.

It was a wonderful celebration and thank you for our courageous firefighters.

Helene and I stopped at Station 5 on our way home with a tray of brownies. You can never say thank you enough.

Friday: For Our Seniors: Please Help!!!

6 Dec

If wrinkles must be written upon our brows, let them not be written upon the heart. The spirit should not grow old.

– James A. Garfield-
This afternoon we celebrated Miss Eleanor Correnty’s 90th birthday at Towne Creek Apartments in McKinney. There was laughter, great food, and plenty of cake. But, this celebration was just a brief distraction and pleasant pause in the every day life that our seniors face. Many are alone, with no family or friends nearby.

These lovely, normally calm and content seniors, are all up in arms about their McKinney TAPS public transportation route being eliminated. The number 100 and 300 route that services Towne Creek Senior Apartments and the adjacent apartment complex was recently cancelled without notice. Many of these residents have no other means of transportation, no friends or family to take them to the doctor, the store, or to the senior center. They are all on very limited incomes.

You can help them by voicing your opinion to TAPS, your friends, and your neighbors. Share this post. Talk to your local council members. Speak up for our elderly neighbors who feel that they no longer have a voice and no one cares. It doesn’t matter if you live in McKinney or outer Mongolia. Our seniors deserve our respect and appreciation. Thank you!
