Friday Friends at Towne Creek

20 Nov

“Old friends are the best friends. And yes, we are all pretty old.”

Today was our Young At Heart group over at Towne Creek. As usual, Helene and I prepared all kinds of goodies for our monthly meeting. I recounted how I’ve been volunteering there around 15 years now. And every time I go. It’s a fun new adventure.

Today’s menu was turkey sandwiches, tomato shell soup, snacks, mini cheesecakes, ice cream sandwiches, and more.
Fun crafts and projects and Christmas and holiday gifts.
Hard at work, creating fun crafts and gifts to share with friends and family.
A lot of cool projects.
Our Friday feast is always the highlight of the evening.
That’s all from the Elf as herself. (Yes, Helene and I wore our goofy elf hats all day.)

Happy Friday, my friends!

Friday Friends, Food, and My Feet Are Killin’ Me

A very super busy day today. I was up late last night, well, actually early this morning making my special egg salad for my senior friends over at Towne Creek. Why egg salad? Eggs were on sale, 99c for an 18 pack. I boiled 24 eggs, softened a package of cream cheese, added about a cup or more of mayo, (I don’t measure), then sautéed an onion and celery. I made 16 sandwiches and still had some egg salad left over.

I also made up some snack bags with pretzels, popcorn and cheese balls, I also made up some chocolate dipped strawberries, and put together some of my now famous peanut butter topped brownies. We had lots of snacks and drinks. Helene brought fresh fruit and topped it with praline ice cream. OK, I bet you’re wishing you could come to our art class, right?

It was a fine fun day. Now, I need to put my feet up and have a drink. It’s Black Russian Friday.

Back in the saddle, back to my routine. I got up, had a cup of tea, checked my emails, then off to the store. The first Friday of the month, I volunteer over at Towne Creek Senior Apartments. On that day, I go to the store and decide what I’ll prepare for our feast. Today, I bought 2 pizzas, red velvet cake, salted caramel ice cream, ginger ale, and fixins for popcorn/pretzel, peanuts/goldfish snack mix.

First, I picked up a prescription, went to the bank, stopped at Papa Murphy to say hi to Miss Karri, then the grocery store. On the way home, I picked up Bella at Mr. Mike’s, so I could doggie sit a couple of days. I walked the dog, then packed up art supplies for Towne Creek. We were going to work on painting glass bowls for the Empty Bowls charity event coming up.

We had fun painting our bowls. While they were finishing up the first layer of paint, I turned on the oven to bake the pizzas. The smoke sector started blaring when I put the pizzas in the oven. Miss Katie and I took some cardboard and started fanning at the ceiling. The chirping stopped. Darn, maybe those cute firemen would have had to make a quick visit. We had plenty of food to share.

We gathered our hands and said a prayer of thanks. We ate our red velvet cake and ice cream first. Life is short, eat dessert first. We also had a champagne toast to the new year. Of course, it was only ginger ale, but the cute plastic glasses made it feel like real champagne.

My lovely artist friends make me feel so loved and so important. I even have them trained to say…”Toni is …AMAZING!” The cool part is, they actually think so. How blessed am I? After we cleaned up and packed up, I went upstairs to visit with Miss Nelma who couldn’t make it down. Her doctor ordered total bed rest. I took her some food, showed her a zillion baby pictures, and photos of our painting project. We had a nice visit.

Another day to be thankful for.

Black Russian Friday… as soon as I post this. Cheers!!!!
